“The Conjuring” franchise; with “Conjuring 2” screenwriter David Leslie Johnson returning

Deadline is reporting that New Line Cinema is developing a third film in “The Conjuring” franchise; with “Conjuring 2” screenwriter David Leslie Johnson returning. Director James Wan, who helmed the series’ first two installments, is “unlikely to direct the third installment”, but will be involved in the project “likely not in the same capacity”. “The logline for the third installment of the popular ‘Conjuring’ fan-chiseis under wraps but will also be based on another of the real-life case files of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.” Several “Conjuring” spinoff films are in various stages of development - including “Annabelle: Creation” (a sequel to “Annabelle”, which hits theaters on August 11th, 2017), “The Nun” (which hits theaters on July 13th, 2018) and “The Crooked Man” (which currently has no release date).
