the mentor role in the “Spider-Man: Homecoming” sequel

In a recent piece from The Hollywood Reporter on the relationship between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, several new details on Sony’s Marvel Universe were revealed. Firstly, it was revealed that the upcoming “Venom” spinoff will feature Carnage as the films main villain! Next is the revelation that Sony is considering spinoff films based on the Spider-Man villains Kraven the Hunter and Mysterio; and while Spider-Man actor Tom Holland is only contractually obligated to appear in the upcoming two sequels to “Spider-Man: Homecoming”, Sony’s plan is to feature him in some of these spinoffs as well as other future Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films. It was also revealed that Michael Keaton - who plays the villainous Vulture in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” - was only contracted for one film. Finally, THR has confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. will NOT reprise his role as Iron Man / Tony Stark in the “Spider-Man: Homecoming” sequel, but another established MCU character will take on the mentor role Iron Man will have in “Homecoming”. “Spider-Man: Homecoming”, which stars Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei, Michael Keaton, Tony Revolori, Bokeem Woodbine, Michael Chernus, Donald Glover, Hannibal Buress, Laura Harrier, Michael Barbieri, Kenneth Choi, Logan Marshall-Green, Martin Starr, Isabella Amara, Jorge Lendeborg, Jr., JJ Totah, Selenium Leyva, Abraham Attah, Tyne Daly, Tiffany Espensen, Garcelle Beauvais, Angourie Rice, Jacob Batalon, Martha Kelly, Jona Xiao, Zendaya,
Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr., is directed by Jon Watts and hits theaters on July 7th, 2017. “Venom”, which will star Tom Hardy in the titular role, is written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, directed by “Zombieland”’s Ruben Fleischer and hits theaters on October 5th, 2018. The upcoming Animated Ultimate Spider-Man film, which will feature the voice talents of Shameik Moore, Mahershala Ali, Brian Tyree Henry and Liev Schreiber, is directed by Bob Persichetti and will hit theaters on December 14th, 2018. The first “Spider-Man: Homecoming” sequel will hit theaters on July 5th, 2019. The third film currently has no release date. The Silver Sable / Black Cat spinoff film, titled “Silver and Black”, is written by “Thor: Ragnarok”’s Chris Yost and will be directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. The film also currently has no release date. What do you think of Carnage being the main villain of “Venom”? Would you like to see a Kraven the Hunter and/or a Mysterio spinoff film?
