‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ Lands At No. 1 With $69.1M; ‘Wonder Woman’ Holds Steady At No. 2

Even though it accelerated its way to the number one spot with $69.1 million over five days and $45.3 millon over the course of three days, Transformers: The Last Knight is the lowest grossing film in its respective franchise. In 2014, Transformers: Age of Extinction made over $100 million and was the last one to make that much in its opening weekend. Overseas, Transformers: The Last Knight opened in China with $93 million. In the United Kingdom, the film is expected to bring in $130 million.
Since it’s the lowest-grossing film of the franchise so far, it would seem audiences are generally tired of the Transformers films. Critically, the film received some pretty negative reviews. Michael Bay mentioned that this would be his last film in the franchise, with Mark Wahlberg echoing that sentiment. The latter seems ready to move on while the former has said before that he won’t come back to the franchise, but that hasn’t proven to be the case.

At number two, and continuing its domestic rise to the top, is Wonder Woman with $26.1 million, only falling 39% from last weekend. On Friday, the film soared past the $300 million mark and is expected to end the weekend with $319.4 million. To finish off its fourth weekend at the box office, Wonder Woman added another $27.5 million to its gross. Worldwide, the superhero film has now earned $653 million.
Disney Pixar’s Cars 3 earned another $25.2 million and has grossed more than $100 million at the domestic box office. The thriller 47 Meters Down grabbed $6.9 million and has grossed $23.7 million in it second week at the box office. The Tupac film, All Eyez On Me added another $5.88 million, bringing its second-week domestic total to $38.7 million. Finally, newcomers to the box office (both indie films), The Beguiled and The Big Sick brought in $262,000 and $401,000, respectively.
