Netflix potentially reviving “Highwayman” with Woody Harrelson and Kevin Costner staring and John Lee Hancock writing and directing

Deadline is reporting that the long-in-development drama “Highwayman” may be moving forward at Netflix; with Woody Harrelson and Kevin Costner being eyed to star. The film, which will be written and directed by “The Blind Side”’s John Lee Hancock, tells the story of two “veteran Texas Rangers who put an end to the violent robbery spree of Bonnie & Clyde”. “Costner would play legendary lawman Frank Hamer and Harrelson would play Manny Gault. They were out of the Rangers by the time Bonnie & Clyde started their robbery reign, but were commissioned as special investigators, coaxed by a consortium of banks to assemble a posse and end the robbery spree of the notorious gang reputed to have killed 13 cops and others.” Netflix is currently in talks with Universal Pictures - who initially began developing “Highwayman” back in 2013 - to acquire the rights to the project. Robert Redford and the late Paul Newman were previously attached to the film when it was still at Universal.
