[WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for “Spider-Man: Homecoming”. You have been warned!] While speaking to Den of Geek, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige discussed the now-infamous Mary Jane Watson easter egg in “Spider-Man: Homecoming”. For those who have a faulty memory (the film did come out a whole three days ago), towards the end of “Homecoming”, Zendaya’s character Michelle is promoted to President of the Academic Decathlon team. After the announcement her promotion, Michelle takes the opportunity to tell the team to “Call me MJ. My friends call me MJ”. When asked if this line was confirmation that Michelle was, in fact, iconic comic book character - and Spider-Man love interest - Mary Jane Watson, Feige said the following: “In setting up this will be a very different thing, she’s not Mary Jane Watson, that’s not who the character is. But giving her the initials that remind you of that dynamic certainly is intriguing about what could go forward. Clearly, she says she’s not obsessed with him, she’s just observant. But she’s there. And to have fun with that while at the same time having it be different characters that can provide a different dynamic [is the point].” “Spider-Man: Homecoming”, which stars Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei, Michael Keaton, Tony Revolori, Bokeem Woodbine, Michael Chernus, Donald Glover, Hannibal Buress, Laura Harrier, Michael Barbieri, Kenneth Choi, Logan Marshall-Green, Martin Starr, Isabella Amara, Jorge Lendeborg, Jr., JJ Totah, Selenium Leyva, Abraham Attah, Tyne Daly, Tiffany Espensen, Garcelle Beauvais, Angourie Rice, Jacob Batalon, Martha Kelly, Jona Xiao, Zendaya, Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr., is directed by Jon Watts and is now playing.
